About

Heritage, Hospitality & The Hunt

Iron Mound Outfitters was founded on a simple principle: to create an unforgettable hunting experience for every guest—no matter their experience level. Our land spans Salina’s native grasslands, creek bottoms, cultivated fields, and the iconic Iron Mound itself, the gateway to the Smoky Hills. As the easternmost prominence of the range, it served as a landmark to settlers heading west onto the Kansas prairie.

Now, every inch is managed with respect for nature, a commitment to conservation, and a belief in shared tradition. We’re not just another outfitter—we’re a destination. With a growing lodge network, exceptional service, and a team of seasoned guides and world-class bird dogs, we aim to be the new standard in Kansas hunting.

World-Class Bird Dogs in Action

Hunting with us means watching elite bird dogs do what they were born to do. Our dogs are trained for precision, obedience, and performance.
They’re not just part of the hunt—they’re part of the experience.

Iron-Mound_Dogs_Tank-03

Tank aka “Tanker”

At six years old, Tank is a driven German Wirehaired Pointer with a nose for adventure—and occasionally mischief. Known for his stylish point and bold retrieves, he’s happiest leading the charge (even if it means unlatching a gate for a solo outing). Watch him race the others to a long retrieve, and you’ll see why he’s a guest favorite.

Iron-Mound_Dogs_Max-01

Max aka
“Max a Million”

The smallest pup of the litter turned into the boss of the pack. Max may be petite, but she runs the show with confidence and heart. She has an exceptional nose, a soft side for post-hunt cuddles, and a reputation for pointing birds long before you see them.

Iron-Mound_Dogs_Buddy-47

Buddy aka “Boudreaux”

Buddy wasn’t supposed to stay—but this bonus pup won over the family, and there was no letting him go. His name says it all – steady, loyal, and sharp, he’s the quiet workhorse of the team. While not as flashy as the others, he excels at tracking down birds and rarely puts a paw wrong.
Iron-Mound_Dogs_Jay-35

Jay aka “Jaybird”

Jay is the youngest of the crew—and the goofball of the kennel. This two-year-old Wirehair keeps things lively with his nonstop “talking” and big personality. But when it’s time to work, he locks in. Jay lives for long retrieves and will chase a wounded bird to the next county if you let him.
